St John's Catch Up September: Littlewick Green

St John's Catch Up

Dear All,

The Autumn Equinox was on 23rd September so we are officially in Autumn. The warm weather this year has delayed the leaf falls but as I write our trees are already starting to drop leaves and the autumn colours are appearing. I thought that this picture conjures up the changes taking place.

We celebrated our Harvest Festival on the 2nd October at our Family Eucharist and Sunday Club. The church was decorated in autumn colours and so many gifts were brought in and placed on the chancel steps. The Montessori School came in on the Friday with all the children and their gifts. I understand they sang a song for Lizzie, Hannah , Gail and Jo who were there doing the flowers. The majority of gifts this year went to Maidenhead Food Bank with some gifts also going to Yeldell Manor. Thank you all for supporting a wonderful Harvest Service. There were 16 children in church with their parents and 14 went to the Cabin and returned before the service ended to tell us what they had been up to. What a joy to see the children enjoying themselves in St John’s.

I was also able to do a little recruiting during coffee. Lisa and Mark joined the coffee Rota and offered to do the All Age service yesterday...Mark even baked Chocolate Brownies!
We also have a couple of new Readers for John’s list as well. I also received offers to help at a Harvest Supper next year. A date has now been reserved of 8th October....more nearer the time.

It is great to be able to make sure refreshments are always available and I am hopeful that as I ask for volunteers each month, we will have offers. Sandra and I will now be setting things up before the service, placing biscuits and milk in church, so I just need one or two to offer to serve. Fingers Crossed!

Contact me if you want to be put on my list of helpers. You will make me very happy.

ALL SAINTS DAY 5th November....... Red Roses in church in memory of a loved one or two...

Every year Jenny and Yvonne sell red roses in memory of family or friends who are no longer with us. The roses are displayed around the church and during the service the names of our loved ones are read out. The roses cost £3.50 each and you can order them through Jenny 822886 or Yvonne 07974725417. You can buy as many as you want. Every sill is covered and the names are also displayed with the roses.

NICK HOOPER.

It with great sadness that I report that Nick passed away last Thursday . Nick was an active member of our church and was a member of the intersession list. Nick was also a committee member of the Littlewick Green Society for some years. Nick was such a gentle man and he will be missed by us all. Our condolences go to Mary Joyce and the family as they come to terms with their sad loss. Nick’s funeral will take place in St John’s on the 26th October at 2pm. All are welcome. There will be refreshments afterwards in the Gilchrist Hall.

PARISH VISION DAY. SUNDAY 30th October.

Join us on the 30th, we gather in Hurley for a Parish service at 10am and then move over to Monks Barn for refreshments and the vision day. Lunch will be provided. The idea is to have three sessions exploring ways for the parish to go forward on our journey. The day will finish at 3pm. I do hope many from St John’s will come along and represent our church. Children welcome, we want the day to represent all aspects of our parish life.

DILYS WOODMORE.

I mentioned in my last Catch Up that Dilys and Michael are moving to St Albans to be nearer to her family. I have placed a card at the back of church if you would like to sign it. I am also collecting for a gift from St John’s.

That’s it for now....

God Bless

Richard.
