Christianity is about relationship and community, the best way to find out about faith and prayer, to raise questions and to get help, is to meet some Christians which you can do at any of our services, or by asking to talk to our pastoral visitors - see below. Read some of the real life experiences which show how life-changing the Christian message can be here.
The vicar has identified this as one of his
'special prayers'. It comes from the communion service and, at
one time, was called the 'Prayer of Humble Access'. The Common
Worship Service calls it, 'Prayer of Preparation.' to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hidden: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through Christ our Lord. Amen Keith writes: 'It is a prayer that reminds us that we can be totally open with God, we can come to Him as we are with no pretence knowing that He will accept us as we are. We then pray for the cleansing of our inner thoughts, for it is from them our true character emerges. But we pray not just for cleansing, but for inspiration, the inspiration of the Spirit of Truth that Jesus calls 'the paraclete' the one who comes alongside, the 'Comforter. The Holy Spirit has the power to transform our character, to produce what St Paul calls the 'fruit of the Spirit' - love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. This same Spirit is a Spirit of power, the spirit that raised Jesus, a spirit of that brings gifts so that we may indeed 'worthily magnify your holy name'.'

wishes. Maurice Almighty God, Father of all mercies, we thine unworthy servants do give thee most humble and hearty thanks for all thy goodness and loving-kindness to us and to all men; We bless thee for our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; but above all for thine inestimable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ, for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory. And we beseech thee, give us that due sense of all thy mercies, that our hearts may bE unfeignedly thankful, and that we shew forth thy praise, not only with our lips, but in our lives; by giving up ourselves to thy service, and by walking before thee in holiness and righteousness all our days; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom with thee and the Holy Ghost be all honour and glory, world without end. Amen. Daily Prayer If you are unable to attend the services at one of our three Churches, the Church of England provides services for use each day. © The Archbishops' Council of the Church of England, 2002-2004 . How Do I Pray? 'Lord, teach us to pray' That request was put to Jesus by his own disciples - which should encourage us if we feel we don't know how to pray. They needed help, and so often do we. But there isn't just one right way to pray - what works well for one person may not for another. These thoughts are offered just as guidelines which may be helpful.
