Parish NewsCoffee AND community More than 50 people, from babies upwards, and from every part of the parish came together at our coffee morning in May. There was a very happy atmosphere as everyone chatted over coffee and cake, and made purchases from the well-stocked bring and buy stalls. It was such a lovely social occasion for the whole parish that we plan to do it again. Look out for the next date and come along to enjoy the friendship and fellowship. (By the way,we raised £227 for parish funds as well.) The cost is only £2 a month so, if you would like to join for the rest of the year, please send your cheque for £16 made payable to PCC of Stubbings to Craftings, Altwood Close, Maidenhead, SL6 4PP or give me a ring on 01628 626149. Tony Ruffell Beware oil thieves At the time of going to press, several more people have either definitely had their oil stolen or indeed suspect they have as they have used more than usual. Be vigilant! Martin Westrop, Neighbourhood Watch coordinator for Littlewick Green urges us all to be ever vigilant. It's suspected that these oil thieves are using secondhand tankers or small vans with tanks inside them. If you see anything suspicious call the crime line on 0845 8505505. It is also worth checking your insurance policies. Many policies specify a maximum of £1,000 an oil claim, while others include it under garden fixtures and fittings. This was fine when a litre was only 16p but now it's around 60p. Waltham in the wild Waltham Place head gardener Beatrice Krehl talked Hurley Garden Club through the redevelopment of its gardens during their April meeting. It developed when owner, Strilli Oppenheimer, visited Holland and was very taken with the use of wild plants. She want to grow those that attract wild life to her 148 acres, of which 40 acres is ornamental. There is an interesting potager, a rose-covered pergola covered in roses and a large double border, among others and the interesting restaurant uses all home-grown ingredients. Even ground elder is allowed to grow, and used for soups - and bindweed grows up hedges. The gardens are open from May until September. The Garden Club now has three days of garden outings organised. ![]() 'Knit and Natterers' hand over another consignment We continue to make great strides in our efforts in helping the charity Feed the Children. On May 13, we received a visit from their representative Margaret McConkey who took away another large donation of knitted articles. This brings our total so far this year to 41 blankets, 58 stripey jumpers and several bonnets and bootees for premature babies. Well done everyone, both those of you who come to the meetings and our team of 'outworkers'. In the latest Feed the Children newsletter, a plea has been sent for plain v-neck jumpers for school in royal blue, navy blue, maroon, bottle green, pink or yellow in chest sizes 22 inches to 34. If you can help in anyway please contact me, Heather, or Linda. Perhaps you like knitting school jumpers. As the children tend to be thinner for their height than UK children, add an extra 1-2 inches on the length and sleeve. If anyone is interested in joining us on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month (excluding August) at 2pm in the Soltau Centre, you will be very welcome. Heather Heelas (M'd 629380) or Linda Ruffell(M'd626149) Shooting fear The Littlewick Green Society has delivered a warning leaflet regarding worries about a planning application expected soon to build a bund (a mound, usually of rubble) around the area currently used for shooting, south of the village. While being opposed to a bund over 13 feet high, as it thinks it's out of keeping in the Green Belt and will be an ineffective noise reducer, the Society is also worried about the possibility that increased shooting may be applied for. Possibly for 365 days! If you haven't received a leaflet, which suggests protesting right away, contact Society chairman Paul Martin on 01628 823216. Parish Family Barbecue Sunday July 13 from noon at Cartref Can, Littlewick Green Tickets £10 or £25 for a family (from the office or church wardens) Children's games.
