![]() There’s so much going on for the younger members
of Burchetts Green Parish... LETS TALK ABOUT HARVEST FESTIVAL Harvest Festival is a celebration of the food grown on the kind a time to be thankful to God for the food we have and to thank those who have grown and harvested (gathered in) the food for us. This year our three churches will celebrate at different times spread over the end of September to early October. See details. Harvest is a time when we, as Christians, are reminded of all the good things given to us by God. In England, we celebrate this day by singing, praying and decorating our churches with baskets of fruit and food. We usually bring food from home to a HARVEST FESTIVAL service, so that we can share with others who are not as fortunate. Most of us are fortunate to have plenty of food and don't have to be hungry, but there are many people in the world who are not as lucky. Pakistan needs help Now, in particular, we are thinking and praying for the people of Pakistan. Many have lost everything in the floods. They have little or nothing to eat, no fresh water and are threatened by disease. Perhaps you could send some of your pocket money to help. Ask your mum or dad how! Rev Robert Hawker started celebrating HARVEST FESTIVAL, in 1843, in Morwenstow in Cornwall. He invited the people from his parish to gather and sing hymns and to thank God for his generosity with a thanksgiving service. It's good to give thanks to God for all that he provides. You can learn a simple mealtime prayer even if you are very young. The one we say at mealtimes, as grace', in our family is one I learnt when I was a child and have taught to my children. Thank you for the world so sweet. Thank you for the food we eat. Thank you for the birds that sing. Thank you God for everything. Amen |
Pebbles
For Parents and Toddlers there is ‘ Pebbles
’ which meets every Tuesday in the Soltau Centre at 10.30am and
every Thursday in the Priory Room, Hurley at 10.30am . We
begin with a short time of worship including a bible
story written for toddlers usually read by one of the
Mums followed by some action songs and prayer. ![]()
The children are familiar with a short
prayer which we use every week and also the Lord’s Prayer which
we use in the same format as in the Family
Services.
After the service we have an extended coffee
time with plenty of toys for the children to share. The group
is friendly and provides fellowship and support for new
parents and sometimes grandparents as well.
Newcomers are made to feel very welcome even if they are only able to join the group for a short time before going back to work. Check for dates of Pebbles. Children's Groups
We have
Sunday school on the first Sunday and third Sunday at
Stubbings. The children join in the first part of the 10:30am Parish Service
before going to the Soltau Centre, returning for the final blessing. At the
11:15am Holy Communion Service children meet in the Soltau Centre and join the
service for a blessing. A creche is available at both Services. On the Second Sunday in the month we hold Family Services at Hurley at 10.30am. On the forth Sunday in the month we hold a Family Service at Stubbings at 10.30am. See you there!
